So a few posts back I talked about my yoga journey and that I was diving back into my yoga studies. I decided the time was right to invest in the 7 Chakras Mind and Body Advanced Chakra Therapy Certification through the Bodhi Yoga Center where I completed my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Certification.
I’ve spent a lot of my evenings and weekends digging into the 30 hours of online videos and studying the manual and I’m beginning my personal study. I’m excited to see how this compliments my yoga training and adds a new layer of depth and insights for the folks who choose to work with me through these practices.
Part of the certification requirements includes blogging about my experience which I love because it helps me practice sharing what I’m learning. Our first personal practice is an introduction to chakra study. Through the videos and manual we’re provided with a number of tools, techniques, and practices we can use to gain insights, get clarity, and work through the things that may be holding us back.
If you didn’t know, the chakras are centers in the body where mind and body meet. Most people know the seven primary chakras, but the chakra system encompasses over 72,000 energy lines. The system is connected through the Nadis and include secondary centers called Marma Points. (You can learn more about these things here if this is new to you.)
Y’all if this sounds like a lot, stick with me. The chakras don’t have to feel out of reach or like some hippy thing that only mystical full time yogis can learn about. Studying the chakras can be a deeply personal practice on it’s own or it can be layered and align with your existing belief systems. The thing I’ve loved in reviewing the online videos was to see how chakra work could be one more way to better understand yourself and to become empowered to do the work that helps you be the fullest expression of your authentic self.
So, back to my experience so far. The thing I was most worried about as I started was that some how I wouldn’t do this “right”. As I reviewed the videos and saw the practice sessions I realized that there were a number of tips I could immediately use as I learn. I also reminded myself of the words of the incredible Gaye Glasspie of GG Made It that “it’s not hard, it’s new”. Sometimes I think we hold ourselves back because it’s uncomfortable to be new at something. Especially when we’ve reached a point of being an expert in some things it can be truly painful to suddenly not have all the answers.
My experience in sitting with the information I’ve learned so far is that I feel hopeful. Hopeful for what I can learn for myself. Hopeful for opportunities to support people in their journey. Hopeful that this can add another layer of understanding of myself and what others may be going through too. I’ve found that sometimes the more I understand myself the more empathy I can have towards others.
I’ve been able to use the tools of color therapy, aroma therapy, and the written manual and videos to begin this journey and I’m excited to dig further into the tools and to deepen my understanding. If this is interesting to you visit this page and scroll to the bottom for an overview video.
